Finding the Right Blend: Stories and Advice about Combining Face-to-Face and Online Learning Modalities

Blended learning combines online and in-person learning practices. However, with all the learning tech advances, it can be difficult to know where to start or even if a blended learning environment is the right way to go. The E-Learning Office and the Faculty Development Office have assembled an excellent group of individuals from across UPEI to discuss the use of blended learning. The panelists include

H. Carolyn Peach Brown - Director, Environmental Studies; Associate Professor, Faculty of Science.
Andrew Carrothers - Assistant Professor, Faculty of Business.
Marva Sweeney-Nixon - Professor, Faculty of Science; Chair of Biology Department.
Nicole Wadden-Garland - Accessibility Services Coordinator.
Gerald Wandio - FDO Program Coordinator; Sessional Instructor, Faculty of Arts.
Hayden Woodley - Assistant Professor, Management; Academic Director, Business Co-op Program.

The panel discussion will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in AVC 201N. A light lunch will be served, so come early!

The UPEI Department of Biology is deeply saddened by and wishes to inform the campus community of the passing on September 29, 2018 of retired faculty member, Dr. Ninian Leblanc, after a sudden illness.

Dr. LeBlanc taught biology to thousands of students during his thirty years as a professor at Prince of Wales College and UPEI, and afterwards at PEI’s Seniors College. As faculty volunteer at the UPEI’s First-Year Advisement Centre for eight years and instructor of first-year biology, Dr. Leblanc's face welcomed many students to campus. As Marshal of Convocation for 20 years until his retirement, his persona also shepherded many students as they graduated from UPEI. Dr. Leblanc's personal commitment to his students and his dedication to establishing a high standard of excellence for PEI's new University were outstanding.

In 1999, Ninian's colleagues in the Faculty of Science, together with the Alumni Association of the University of Prince Edward Island, created the Dr. Ninian N. Leblanc Alumni Award to honour Dr. Leblanc's outstanding contribution to UPEI and to continue his life's work: assisting students achieve their educational goals.

A funeral mass will be held in memory of Dr. Leblanc at Saint Dunstan’s Basilica on Tuesday, October 2 at 2 pm. Read the obituary

The entire UPEI community extends condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Flags at UPEI will be flown at half-mast on Sunday, September 30 to commemorate Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. In 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as National Memorial Day to give Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers, which made the ultimate tragic sacrifice to keep our communities safe.
