The Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Committee invites the UPEI community to the next seminar of the Environmental Sciences/Human Biology Series: Dr Angela Riveroll (PIHCI Network, Applied Human Sciences) will be presenting a talk entitled "Precision health: A personalized approach to active health management". The event is Friday, September 28 at 12:30 in room 204 of Duffy Science Centre.

AVC’s 30th annual Open House will take place on Saturday, September 29, from 10 am until 2 pm. Hosted by AVC students, faculty, and staff, this family-friendly event offers the community an opportunity to get an inside view of a busy veterinary college. This event features something for everyone—different kinds of animals, a parade of dog breeds at 12 noon, demonstrations and exhibits, our popular teddy bear clinic and other children’s activities, and much more.

Author of Live Close to Home (2016); Technology and Sustainability (2014); Gift Ecology: Reimagining a Sustainable World (2012), Dr. Denton will present a lively and dynamic discussion on Living Close to Home: Local Choices for a Sustainable Future.

About Dr. Denton:

Dr. Peter Denton works in the social, cultural and ethical dimensions of technology in multi-disciplinary contexts. He chairs the Policy Committee of the Green Action Centre and has been involved in UN Environment since 2012 as a civil society representative and as a contributing author to the GEO 6 North American Regional Assessment (2016). Dr. Denton is a principal consultant at greenethics.ca, inc., and holds multiple degrees, including a PhD in Religion and the Social Sciences from McMaster University. He is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada. He currently teaches history of technology at the University of Winnipeg and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of History at the Royal Military College of Canada.

This event is co-sponsored by UPEI Environmental Studies Program and the Kirk of St. James. It is a free, public event. All are welcome.

Join us for the first PEI History of Medicine Society talk of 2018-19. Dr. Jock Murray will speak about his discoveries while writing his recently published book that charts the history of the Dalhousie Medical School. The stories of medical education at Dalhousie will cover the remarkable beginning of the medical school, the early acceptance of women, some outstanding doctors and some outrageous and criminal characters, the ill-fated separation from the university, the impact of a school teacher’s critical report, the role of medical students in the Halifax Explosion, and how medical education and medical admissions have changed over the years. The event is Wednesday, October 10 at 7:00 pm in the Faculty Lounge of SDU Main Building.

The APAP is a federal recruitment program that offers recent graduates an unparalleled development opportunity in the federal public service. The APAP develops high potential individuals for policy roles in the Government of Canada by offering recent master's-level graduates the opportunity to establish a foundation of knowledge and experience in federal public administration.

• Fire Extinguisher Training – Drop in between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm in our outside the Student Centre and learn to use a fire extinguisher. 
This activity only takes a few minutes and you will be entered to win a fire extinguisher for personal use for participating. This activity is presented by the Charlottetown Fire Department as part of the Safety Fair.

The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre is offering two mass immunization clinics in partnership with Public Health Nursing at our clinic, second floor, Murphy Centre North (above the book store). The clinics will be held on October 22nd 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and repeated on November 1st from 12:00 - 5:00 pm and no need for an appointment - just drop in. Flu shots are free and available to all faculty, staff, and students. Ask about other immunizations that you might need such as tetanus booster - we could make a follow-up appointment.

All are welcomed to attend this week's FSDE Graduate research seminar on Wednesday, September 26 at 11:30 am in FSDE 212.
