Angie Petty, an Instructional Designer in the TLC, will speak on zines and reflection practices within Higher Education. Neil Forbes, an IKERAS Faculty member, will provide reflection prompts to help each of us engage with reconciliation through zine-making.
Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own.
The Robbins-Ollivier Award for Excellence in Equity recognizes the legacy of those who advanced equity within the Canada Research Chairs Program and Canada’s research ecosystem. Valued at $100,000, three awards are granted annually to fund bold, institution-level initiatives that challenge systemic barriers, spark meaningful change, and advance equity in academia. The award supports faculty-led projects that engage students, trainees, and underrepresented groups, while fostering innovative, long-term solutions. At UPEI, eligible faculty are invited to submit internal proposals through the Romeo Researcher Portal by October 14, 2025. As each institution may submit only one nomination, a sub-committee of the Research Advisory Committee will recommend which project moves forward to the national competition by the November 4, 2025 deadline.
For full eligibility details and application guidelines, please visit the program website. For support or questions, contact Janice Murphy, Contracts & Funding Officer; janmurphy@upei.ca.

Name that Building! UPEI wants your help in choosing a name for our new building.
The University of Prince Edward Island is excited to be approaching completion of the new 140,000 square-foot building, which supports the UPEI Faculty of Medicine and medical learners in the regional campus of Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine, as well as UPEI students in nursing, psychology, nutrition and dietetics, kinesiology, paramedicine, and other programs. It will also have a Patient Medical Home, the provincial Adult ADHD Clinic (both operated by Health PEI), and allow for collaborations with others at UPEI—like the Atlantic Veterinary College—and in the broader community.
The Vice-President Academic and Research and Vice-President Administration and Finance would like to engage the creativity of the University community to consider some of the latest proposed names and offer feedback in support or against those submitted—or suggest potentially a new name altogether.
Help us choose the name! The finalist options include the
- Health Education Facility
- Interprofessional Health Education Facility
- Faculty of Medicine and Health Education Centre
- Medical and Interprofessional Health Centre.
What is your opinion? Email your thoughts about one or more of the above—or an even better name—to vpaf@upei.ca. A steering committee will review this feedback as part of its selection process. Please send all feedback by 11:59 pm on September 29, 2025.

The first meeting of the UPEI Senate will take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in Room 102 at Alumni Hall (618 University Avenue). To view the 2025-2026 calendar of Senate meetings or documents for the upcoming meeting, click here. (Posted one week before the meeting)
All meetings are open to members of the University community, although certain in-camera items (e.g., granting of degrees) may require the Senate to go into a closed session. Only members of Senate are permitted to address the Senate unless otherwise recognized by the chair.
For logistical purposes, members of the UPEI community who wish to attend the open session of a UPEI Senate meeting are asked to contact senate@upei.ca one week prior to the meeting. While Senate is an in-person meeting, members of the University community may request a virtual connection when they are unable to attend in person.

The UPEI Philosophy Reading Group is starting up again for the 2025/2026 academic year. The group meets downtown on a monthly basis and plans to convene for the first time this semester on Tuesday, September 23, from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Blue Jay Room, Charlottetown Library Learning Centre, 97 Queen Street, Charlottetown.
This year, the group will focus on the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze, beginning with his book Nietzsche and Philosophy.
In Nietzsche and Philosophy, Deleuze identifies and explores three crucial concepts in Nietzschean thought-multiplicity, becoming, and affirmation-and clarifies Nietzsche's views regarding the will to power, eternal return, nihilism, and difference. For Deleuze, Nietzsche challenged conventional philosophical ideas and provided a means of escape from Hegel's dialectical thinking, which had come to dominate French philosophy. He also offered a path toward a politics of difference. In this new edition, Michael Hardt's foreword examines the profound influence of Deleuze's provocative interpretations on the study of Nietzsche, which opened a whole new avenue in postwar thought."
If you would like to attend our upcoming meeting or simply add your name to the mailing list for future sessions, please contact Dr. Max Schaefer at mschaefer@upei.ca.
