The UPEI Department of Music Recital Series 2017-2018 presents Raga Music featuring Rod Thomas Squance, on the marimba (a Central American xylophone), and Abbas Janmohamed, on the tabla (a pair of sophisticated traditional drums from India) will play music inspired by the North Indian, Hindustani tradition of classical raga, but with an innovative and multicultural treatment. Raga is a centuries-old form of classical music originating in India, with a combination of composed and improvised elements and very close communication and interaction between the performers.
Together, Rod and Abbas will present North Indian raga music with a fresh, exciting and highly entertaining approach that still preserves the integrity and authenticity of the tradition.
The recital will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 7:30 PM in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, UPEI Campus.
Admission for adults: $20 and students: $15. Tickets available at the door or online by clicking here.

As PEI’s only university, UPEI plays a large role in the Island’s community.
While UPEI is a major economic driver and one of the largest employers, educating our students while opening their futures to new exciting possibilities is paramount.
Many of the innovative and leading-edge initiatives and offerings at UPEI would not be possible without the help of our donors.
Giving to UPEI is giving to the people we serve ~ our students, our future.
Annually we ask UPEI Staff and Faculty to consider donating to the University.
It’s not WHAT you give, it’s THAT you give.
Together we make a difference.
Our goal is to increase the level of employee giving to 25%.
You can donate easily through payroll in three simple steps:
1. Campus Login
2. Donation by Payroll
3. Complete the brief form (and deductions appear on your T-4)
Or contact Kim Roach, Gift Processor at 902-894-2888 or karoach@upei.ca
Your donation today will help us continue to prepare our students for their future.
