Gas Cylinder users: As per the Praxair gas cylinder contract agreement a price adjustment has been made effective November 1st,2015. Please contact Procurement Services for the updated price list.

Please be advised that the main door to Central Services will be closed at all times. Closure of the door is a Public Health Agency of Canada requirement, to comply with the regulations for a Level 2 Containment Zone.  Entrance to the lab remains the same as previously, such as wearing the guest lab coats, etc., so the only change is that the door will be closed when you arrive.

I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.  We are hoping to install a more suitable door with a larger window in the near future.  In the meantime, as you open the door please be cautious of the traffic coming in and out.

Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board. However, the UPEI Research Ethics Board does not meet in December so the next deadline for submitting these protocols is Monday January 4 2016. They will be reviewed at the January meeting.  Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after January 4 will be reviewed at the February meeting.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

Submit the following:
·         one hard copy of the signed application form and associated documents to Joy Knight at the Office of Research Services, 200 Kelley Memorial Building and

The International Relations Office would like to create a database of staff and faculty who speak a language in addition to English.  This database will be used by the staff of the International Relations Office as a resource when visitors come to campus and to assist students at times  when translation would be helpful. We are not asking for certified translation services, but if you  are interested in offering your language skills, please email irostu@upei.ca with your name, gender, additional language(s), phone number, and email, and please title subject as “Translator Database”. UPEI and Student Affairs are offering Mental Health First Aid training to all Students, Faculty and Staff. All fees and related costs are paid for in full by UPEI and The President.

The MHFA Canada program aims to improve mental health literacy, and provide the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, a family member, a friend or a colleague.

The upcoming session will be facilitated by James Reddin (one of UPEI's counselors) and will held on Friday November 20th, 9am-4pm, and Friday December 4th, 9am-4pm. Attendance on both days is mandatory for completion of the training.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox preparing last Saturday went well.  We filled over 80 boxes that will be delivered by the end of the week. Some boxes remain in the Chaplaincy Centre if anyone was looking to help out but missed last week's deadline. The Animal Care Committee does not meet in December. The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions -- new, renewal, or amendment -- is Friday, January 8, 2016 for the January meeting.

Join us today for “Tim Talk,” a presentation by Dr. Tim Goddard on the subject of “International Education: Global Life in Local Spaces.” The event will be held at 12:30 pm in the AVC Learning Commons, and will also feature refreshments and door prizes!

In this talk, Dr. Tim Goddard will address questions of internationalization on campus. What does an international education look like? How might domestic students globalize their degree? How can international students influence institutional life? What challenges face students, administrators, faculty, and staff who want to develop international awareness among all members of the campus community? Drawing upon the experience of the Faculty of Education as a case study, he will explore what an internationalized education might look like as well as the difficulties inherent in achieving such a vision.

Apple iPhone users: if you have updated or have a new iPhone device with the iOS 9 or 9.1, its feature Wi-Fi Assist automatically switches your device from Wi-Fi to cellular signal when Wi-Fi is weak, therefore your data usage will increase.

It is recommended you turn off this feature to minimize your data usage.

Instructions for turning off the WI-Fi Assist Feature are as follows:
Go into Settings.
Choose Cellular.
Scroll down to Wi-Fi Assist (close to bottom).
Switch the slider to the "off" position.
