Campus Notices

April is Daffodil month, a month to remember and honour those who have been touched by cancer. It is also a time to raise funds for the programs, services, and research done by the Canadian Cancer Society. This is an opportunity for UPEI to help with these efforts. The University has been apart of the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Campaign for many years, and the Society's PEI Division is currently seeking a new champion to take on the role of liaising between the various UPEI departments. This person would receive an email in March with an order form and the deadline date for orders. They would then need to contact each department, and ensure all orders are collected by the deadline to be delivered on April 1. If you're interested in getting involved, please contact Alana at the Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division at (902) 566-4007 or asprague@pei.cancer.ca

You're invited to submit stories, announcements, or departmental updates to UPEI's newsletter, the Campus Connector. The submission deadline for the next edition is Monday, February 3 by 5:00 pm. Submissions must follow these guidelines: -be emailed to Sheila Kerry at communications@upei.ca -sent in a Microsoft Word or plain text document -be no longer than 250 words The editors reserve the right to edit content, will not consider incomplete submissions, and cannot guarantee that all submitted materials will be published. If you have any questions or comments, please contact communications@upei.ca.
UPEI will be hosting a blood donor clinic on January 30 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at the Chi-Wan Young Sport Centre. Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 1-888-2-DONATE, (1 888 236 6283). Walk-ins are welcome. Allen Veale - UPEI mobile clinic facilitator - 566-0988
The UPEI Training in Animal Use and Care session scheduled for Thursday, January 30 has been cancelled. The course will be rescheduled for a later date.
The final exam period for this semester will be April 9-23 (see General Calendar Dates). The exam schedule will be posted by mid-February. Thank you

Building on last year’s Respectful Workplace sessions, the Healthy Campus Committee is again sponsoring sessions on creating and maintaining a respectful workplace at UPEI. Last year’s sessions, facilitated by Jan Link, were well received and well attended. Respectful workplace behaviours impact everyone on campus and it is the hope of the Healthy Campus Committee that everyone takes the opportunity to attend a session. Workplace facilitator Gerry Hopkirk, and a former acting Dean of Education at UPEI, will be offering two new sessions over the next few weeks. The overarching theme will be “Creating A Positive Workplace Environment.” The format will be interactive using simulations, discussion, and storytelling. Topics will include: · building trust and eliminating betrayal, · respecting diversity, · working collaboratively, · making safe change, · resolving conflict positively, and · building on strengths. These sessions are an outcome of the 2012 employee engagement survey and have the support of the University’s senior administration who agree that this is a very important topic to help drive a positive workplace culture. We would encourage you to attend one of the two sessions below and would ask that you please register with Human Resources at humanresource@upei.ca for one of the following dates/times: Wednesday, January 29, 2014 Time: 1:00–3:00 Location: TBA Wednesday, February 5, 2014 Time: 10:00–12:00 Location: TBA Thank you.
