Please be advised that the Government of Canada is once again sponsoring the Canada Summer Jobs program designed to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in Fall 2017.

Public and private-sector employers are eligible for a wage subsidy of up to 50% of the provincial/territorial adult minimum hourly wage – in PEI the minimum wage will be $11. For additional information and application information for this program please click here.

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, February 3rd for the February meeting.

· Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - North Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept, Rm 2302

· Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date. Protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

Call for applications from potential graduate students for the 2017 Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship will support the training of researchers at the masters or doctoral level to pursue animal welfare research at the UPEI. Both applied or more fundamental approaches to research pertaining to animal welfare are welcome. Students may take up their award at any time of the year but must do so within 12 months of the date of the letter of offer. Applications for 2017 will be accepted until 12 noon AST on Friday, February 17.

They will be reviewed at the February meeting. Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after February 3 will be reviewed at the March 2017 meeting.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

The KeepitSocial.ca Student-Athlete Ambassadors, UPEI Department of Athletics and Recreation, and Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission invites the campus community to an announcement and launch regarding an important partnership and initiative on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:00 am in the lobby of the UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. 

The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) requires that all personnel involved with the use of animals in research, teaching, testing and service take this training session.  (A refresher course is required every 5 years).

Student Affairs is beginning to organize UPEI’s Mental Health Week 2017 and is calling for interested students, staff and faculty to join the planning committee.

As in past years, we hope to have a variety of people on the committee in order to reach the many areas of the UPEI community. Committee work will entail meetings every three weeks with the main event scheduled for March (Dates still being set). The week with be shortened to three days this year, but then followed by a student led conference for students being organized by another committee.

The planning committee will be responsible for brainstorming ideas to showcase the theme of "Relationships Matter", setting the schedule and making the necessary contacts and bookings. The UPEI Multicultural Choir and Song Circle will be meeting for the first time this semester on Wednesday, January 11th from 4:30 to 5:30pm in the basement of the Robertson Library, Rm. 103. This area is also accessible by an elevator, if needed (call Hailey – see below).

The multicultural choir is in its 6th year, and is a non-audition, open, free and fun activity which brings people from campus and the community together, sharing songs from cultures all around the world!
