A major concern of horse owners, colic is a common disorder of the equine digestive system, resulting in abdominal discomfort and often severe pain. It is likely that most horses will have an episode at some time in their life. On Tuesday, November 19, 7:00–8:30 pm, Dr. Kathleen MacMillan, Equine Ambulatory Service, Atlantic Veterinary College, will share her knowledge about this painful and potentially deadly condition in horses. She will present information about the different types of colic, recognition of symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, and reduction of risk of the illness. The event will take place in AVC Lecture Theatre A. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Donations to the AVC Friends and Family gratefully accepted. For information, contact (902) 566-0589 or avc.upei.ca.

When submitting a work order for an event set-up, (tables, chairs, trash containers, or other items that must be moved/removed), you must submit a second work order to have the area returned to its original configuration and any requested items removed. If your event is in the afternoon, please request the removal for the following day. Please state if you are using any classrooms for your event, as this will dictate room availability for event take-down. This is to ensure we do not miss an event take-down and the items are moved/removed in a timely manner. Thank you, Facilities Management
The Quebec Court of Appeal is expected to release a ruling tomorrow in a case about the future of the Senate of Canada. The government of Quebec has challenged the federal government's attempt to make what some have called an end-run around the Constitution by reforming the senate through ordinary legislation. The court's ruling will take into account the expert testimony of several witnesses, including Dr. Don Desserud, professor of political science at UPEI. Watch an interview about the case with Dr. Desserud at the UPEI Research Blog: http://research.upei.ca/blogs/2013/10/23/other-news-about-senate
