UPEI’s Executive MBA program offers a high-quality learning experience for working business professionals. *WARNING* – We’re seeing an increasing number of reports of infections by the CryptoLocker virus. It is a virus that encrypts Microsoft Office documents on your local computer as well as files on the network. The only recovery is to restore from backup. Be very careful in opening up any attachment as most report that it was an attachment to a bogus FedEx or UPS shipping notice or banking related email. Once infected, you will see a popup saying your files are encrypted and demanding a ransom to get them back. If you think you may be infected, Immediately shut down your computer and notify ITSS helpdesk (566-0465) that you believe you have been infected by the CryptoLocker Virus. As a general rule be very cautious about emails received from people you don't know. Never open attachments unless you are sure of what they are.. Even messages from friends and associates may be as a result of malware infecting the senders computer. If in doubt, contact the sender to verify that the message and attachment was knowingly sent to you. ITSS

UPEI will host a public meeting to release the findings and recommendations of the external review that was conducted to examine the Institute of Island Studies and its interconnectivity with other UPEI and community programs. Mike Randall of Engage Atlantic will lead a moderated discussion on each of the six categories of recommendations. The UPEI Student Union will be involved again this year in next month's Movember campaign. Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches around the world. Through the power of the moustache, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health challenges. Movember encourages men to join the movement by growing a moustache for the 30-days of November. Movember’s not just for Mo Bros. Mo Sistas are an important part of Movember’s success. Once registered, Mo Sistas raise funds and encourage the men in their lives to get involved. Essentially, Mo Sistas do everything that Mo Bros do, without a Mo. November 20: Movember Trivia Night, 8:30 pm The Wave and it's new trivia host will be providing a great night of manly and men's health related questions. November 21: STI Screening Clinic, 9:00 am–4:00 pm Opportunity for male students, faculty, and staff to participate in a free STI screening clinic at the Campus Health Centre. Dr. Tamara Franz-Odendaal, Developmental Biologist and Morphologist at Mount Saint Vincent University, who specializes in craniofacial development and anatomy in vertebrates, will be on campus on Monday, November 4 for a presentation and discussion. Dr. Franz-Odendaal is interested in learning how she can support women in science and engineering at UPEI; and she will also share her experiences, and delve into the possibility of Island-WISE. Dr. Franz-Odendaal is the NSERC Chair—Atlantic Region of Women in Science and Engineering. Her presentation takes place on November 4, 2:30–3:30 pm, Main 320. All are welcome to attend. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Respiratory Protection Training will be offered by Larry Koughan of All-Tech Environmental Services on Wednesday, November 13 from 9:00-11:00 am in AVC 280N. This session will provide information regarding the care, selection, and use of respirators. Whether you currently have a respirator, or if you think you may need one for certain work tasks, then you should attend this session (annually). This is also an important educational opportunity for those who supervise work involving individuals who may need respiratory protection. There is no cost to attend this training as it is covered by the Health and Safety budget. To register for the training session, please contact Lacey Myers at ljmyers@upei.ca or 566-0605. To view the Respiratory Protection Program please see Section 4.9 in the UPEI Laboratory Safety Manual. http://hr.upei.ca/lab-safety. * Prior to using a respirator, individuals are required to complete a UPEI Respirator User Screening Form and send it to HR. Ms. Sara K. Tennant's Master of Arts - Island Studies thesis defense will take place in the Atlantic Veterinary College, Room 287 North on November 6 from 8:30-10:30am. The title of the thesis is: " 'Almost Islands': A Research Synthesis of Aboriginal Communities in Canada as Metaphorical Islands." All are welcome.
