UPEI Career Services presents 2017 Atlantic Canada Career Week from October 30 - November 3. 

Tuesday's events include a session with Start-Up Zone, "PEI's business incubator," helping to accelerate new startups and Start-Up Visa, a session intended to help international students with skills and potential to build businesses in Canada.

The Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts invite members of the campus community - students, faculty and staff - to attend a public presentation by Tricia Logan, candidate for a multi-disciplinary tenure-track position in Indigenous Education. Presentations by candidates for this position will focus on issues of Indigenous Education being integrated in to the daily life, and work, of the University, and their teaching and program of research related to the areas of focus within the Facilities of Education and Arts.

The campus community is invited to attend a research presentation by Dr. Zaida Rahaman, a candidate for a tenure-track position in the Faculty of Nursing. Dr. Rahaman's presentation will be on the topic of “Linking Research to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Nursing" and will take place on November 1, 2017 at 9:00 am in Rm 104 of the Health Science Building.

As an instructor, you’ve set up a syllabus that clearly explains your expectations for where students will end up. Then you set them on the journey to that destination. However, some will get off track along the way. The information you provide, how you provide it and when you provide it will be key to getting them back on the right path or in keeping them on the right path.

In this workshop, provided by the E-Learning Office, instructors will learn strategies for the use of feedback and rubrics that they can use to accompany student assessments. This workshop will be offered on two separate dates. Thursday, November 9 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm; Robertson Library, Rm 265 or Thursday, November 30 10:00 to 11:00 am; Robertson Library, Room 265.

With an increase to the quantity and quality of brain sciences research over the last few years, what of it can be usefully applied to teaching?

This workshop, facilitated through the E-Learning Office, aims to summarize the latest research on learning and memory, and to provide instructors with tips for integration into their teaching. There will be a UPEI Basic Biosafety training session on Thursday, November 2, 2017, 1:00 - 4:30 pm inrRoom 287N, AVC.

Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. This session is open to the full campus community including graduate students. Please note: those who have not attended a training session since 2014 are currently due for the
Biosafety Refresher Course which will be held at a later date.

They are looking for feedback from Islanders that live with disabilities, their families, their emploers, and service providers that support people living with disabilities. Join the Honourable Paula Biggar, PEI’s Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, the PEI Interministerial Women’s Secretariat, and the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women to celebrate women’s contributions to Prince Edward Island History. Chartwells is extending the application deadline to "Chartwells Campus Projects" until Nov 17, 2017.

For a fourth consecutive year, students will be able to partake in a unique opportunity by taking a leadership role in advancing sustainability on campus. Students are invited to develop and realize an innovative "sustainability project" with the support of Chartwells. Up to five successful applicants, campuses across Canada, will recieve a $5000 grant for their porject.

In 1993, Mi'kmaw Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy and then-Nova Scotia premier John Savage declared October as the official month to recognize and celebrate Mi'kmaw culture and heritage. Since then, Mi'kmaq History Month is celebrated in all areas of Mi’kma’ki (the Mi’kmaq homeland that includes present-day Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, central and eastern New Brunswick, the Gaspe Peninsula, and Newfoundland).  UPEI has raised the Grand Council Flag of the Mi'kmaq Nation in honour of Mi'kmaq History Month. The UPEI Music Department is hosting its annual Haunted House on October 27 and 28 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm, in Steel Building. This event is the department's largest fundraiser, with all proceeds going to student scholarships. Cost is just $5 a person, and $4 for UPEI and Holland College students. There will also be a bake sale, so bring an appetite when you come to get spooked!

The SDU Institute of Christianity and Culture will host its fifth annual Faith and Knowledge Lecture featuring Dr. Catherine E. Clifford, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology in the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University, Ottawa on Thursday, October 26 at 7 pm. The lecture will take place at the SDU Class of 1954 Lecture Hall in the UPEI School of Sustainable Design Engineering. Dr. Clifford will speak on the commemoration of the Protestant Reformation in her talk titled, "Freed by Grace towards Communion: Joint Commemoration of the Reformation 2017."
