Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. UPEI will be offering it's next ASIST Workshop on Thursday/Friday March 8th & 9th.

This workshop has a limited capacity of 15, and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All other interested contacts will be included for future ASIST sessions. Please email kjlawlor@upei.ca to request to join the workshop.

The Summer course schedule is now available in the myUPEI Course Catalogue under the term "2018S". The 2018 Fall and 2019 Winter course schedules / registration dates will be available in the coming weeks. A further notice will be posted when more information is available.

For the 2018S (Summer term), registration for all students opens on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 12:00 am Atlantic Time

Experiential learning is a hot topic in education these days. Bring your lunch and join faculty from across campus for a fun showcase of 5 minute Lightning Talks on some of the various experiential opportunities and learning experiences that UPEI classrooms offer. There will be coffee, and a gong to keep things moving!

The Faculty of Science wishes to announce Justin Ferrish, masters student, will be defending his thesis entitled "On Adaptation of Salinity Tolerance: A Study of Phenotypic Divergence Between Lacustrine and Marine Populations of Cakile edentula."

The defence will take place on March 2, 2018 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm in the Duffy Science Centre, Rm. 423.

This semester, the UPEI School of Sustainable Desing Engineering is developing and executing a project that will include the launch and recovery of 16 x 350g weather balloons with our first year engineering students. 

The project aims to allow the students to plan an experiment collecting data from weather balloons, such as temperature, pressure, image and location. This is an exciting proposition for the students who will breathe life into this assignment.

You are invited to join us on Monday, March 5, 2:30 pm at the School of Sustainable Design Engineering, room 128B for a pre-launch exhibition of the payloads of our near Space Exploration project.

Studio 1 Labs – Partnering with academic researchers:

Dr. Olivia Lin and Edward Shim co-founders of Stuido 1 Labs will present on the Fabric Sensor Technology that integrates AI learning they are developing and validating with the perspective of partnering with academic researchers. The company has been supported by funding across all levels of government, supercomputing power from industry, and a number of academic institutions. At UPEI, Studio 1 Labs is collaborating with SSDE’s Dr. Nadja Bressen and AVC’s Dr. Catherine Creighton for clinical studies with animals.

This event will take place Tuesday, March 6, 2018 12:00 – 1:00 pm in the UPEI School of Sustainable Design Engineering (Room 205). Please click here to register, space is limited.

Small group training offers training sessions with a focus on individual progression and skill development.

Sessions can be offered two times per week, and will include a small group of six clients who will work together with a certified personal trainer. Training held in private Fitness Studio #2.

The UPEI Faculty of Arts, Asian Studies Program, and its Korean Studies Project are pleased to announce the following special public talk by the first invited speaker of our new Asian Studies International Seminar and Korean Studies Speaker Series:

Professor Don L. Baker from the Department of Asian Studies, University of British Columbia, will deliver a presentation called “From the Mountains into the Cities: The Transformation of Korean Buddhism in the Twentieth Century” on March 8 from 2:30 to 3:45 pm in the Faculty Lounge (room 201), SDU Main Building.

As the first of our international seminar and speaker series, this is a wonderful lecture topic for understanding the religious-cultural transformation of Buddhism in modern Korea under the influence of Japan, changing Korean values, Christianity, and Western ideas.
