Response to Independent Review

These web pages form a hub for key documents, resources, and communications relating to the "University of Prince Edward Island Review" and the University’s progress toward implementing the recommendations made in the Review report.

Members of our UPEI community have been deeply impacted by discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence, among other problems outlined in the University of Prince Edward Island Review (UPEI Review) conducted by Rubin Thomlinson and published by the University in June 2023. The University is committed to providing resources and supports to members of our community who have been and continue to be affected.

In the wake of the UPEI Review report, UPEI recognizes the need to acknowledge these problems and to further engage in consultation with our community members. Listening, discussion, and learning will help UPEI to identify the actions that need to be taken to ensure the fair treatment of all UPEI community members and to increase the safety for our students and employees.

UPEI also acknowledges the need to rebuild trust on campus and within the broader community. This will take consistent and organized efforts across the University to demonstrate our commitment to community members. Rebuilding trust will also entail demonstrating greater accountability through increased transparency, communication, collaboration, and timely efforts to improve policies, processes, and practices.

UPEI is committed to addressing the recommendations in the UPEI Review report. To do so, an Action Plan is required to guide decisions and actions in the days, months, and years ahead so that pathways to improvements are well-informed, meaningful, and effectively address the problems identified.

In an effort to seek further input and guidance, UPEI is engaging internal and external University community members through a UPEI Action Plan Advisory Group.
