The UPEI Office of Research Partnership and Innovation, formerly the UPEI Office of Commercialization, Industry, and Innovation, will host a Research Breakfast on Thursday, January 29, from 7:30 to 9:00 am in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre, on campus.

The UPEI Department of Religious Studies’ Theology on Tap series returns on January 28 with a talk titled “More than Optimistic: Hope and Teilhard de Chardin” by Dr. Libby Osgood, CND.

Students at Westisle Composite High School have donated $1,300 to UPEI for research into MSX (Multinucleate sphere unknown), a disease in oysters caused by a parasite called Haplosporidium nelsoni.

Twenty-one UPEI researchers have been named to the 2025 Elsevier/Stanford Top 2% of Scientists List. Elsevier, in collaboration with Stanford University, unveiled the list of the world’s most influential and top-cited scientists and engineers earlier this year.

Dr. Caroline Ritter, assistant professor in the UPEI Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, has been renewed as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) for five years ending June 30, 2030.

Two researchers from UPEI are working with the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre and Neurodyn Life Sciences Inc. to develop a novel therapy to slow, or potentially functionally stabilize, the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, PC, KC, Minister responsible for ACOA, was on campus on October 17 to announce close to $1M in non-repayable support for three projects to strengthen the shellfish industry, including two projects at the University.
