Financial Aid

UPEI's Financial Aid Office is here to support you in finding the best way to finance your education. Below are a variety of links and sources to some of the provincial and federal bursary, grant, loan, and related aid opportunities available for you to access.

Government of Prince Edward Island Bursaries

George Coles Bursary: Students working towards their first undergraduate degree who meet PEI residency requirements may be eligible to receive up to $3,200 per year, based on their year of study, from the Government of PEI as part of the non-repayable George Coles Bursary. Register full-time in the Fall and Winter semesters each year to be automatically reviewed by the province for funding awarded annually in the Winter semester. Eligibility requirements, such as social insurance numbers needing to be on file with the UPEI Registrar's Office. Options for students who may not have been initially approved can be found under the “What if I did not receive the George Coles Bursary?” section of the PEI Student Financial Services webpage.

Island Advantage Bursary: The Government of PEI’s Island Advantage Bursary is a needs-based bursary for low- and middle-income PEI students that supplements the George Coles Bursary and the Canada Student Grant for Full-Time Students. Students must apply for a student loan in order to determine their eligibility for the bursary. Eligible students will see the funding disbursed to their student accounts in fall and/or winter and more information around eligibility criteria can be found on the Island Advantage Bursary page.

Marion L. Reid Grant: Provides funding for PEI residents who are enrolled in eligible health care programs at universities and colleges across Canada. Though most of the eligible programs of study are only available off-island, UPEI's Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner programs are also eligible for this grant. Eligible students will receive the grant each academic year while attending post-secondary studies in an eligible health care program up to a maximum of four (4) academic years at $3,200 annually with the maximum total grant payable up to $12,800. The application process and eligibility requirements are important to understand and can be found on the PEI Student Financial Services webpage
