High Indoor Temperatures – Interim Guidance
Several buildings are experiencing elevated indoor temperatures due to the current weather conditions. Facilities Management is actively responding to reported issues and prioritizing repairs and cooling measures where possible.
In the meantime, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) recommends the following measures to reduce the risk of heat-related illness:
- Drink water regularly throughout the day.
- Take short breaks in cooler areas when available.
- Reduce strenuous physical activity where operationally feasible.
- Wear lightweight clothing where dress requirements permit.
- Use fans where appropriate and safe to do so.
- Report persistent high temperatures through the Work Order system and incident@upei.ca.
Supervisors are encouraged to monitor employees performing physically demanding work and adjust work schedules, rest breaks, or work locations as necessary.
Seek medical attention immediately if you or a coworker experiences symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, nausea, severe headache, hot/dry skin. If these symptoms occur, move the individual to a cooler location, notify a supervisor, and contact Emergency Services if symptoms are severe.
HSE and Facilities Management continue to monitor conditions across campus. Where temperatures or humidity present an unacceptable risk, additional controls, including temporary relocation of occupants or postponement of certain activities, may be implemented until conditions improve.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to address these issues.
