French Book Expo

The Salon du livre de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard gives the Acadian, Francophone and Francophile population the opportunity to access a wide variety of French language literary works and meet authors and illustrators. The second edition of the expo will be presented at the University of Prince Edward Island’s W.A. Murphy Student Centre from June 3-7, 2015. UPEI's Faculty of Education is pleased to be collaborating with the organizing committee to make this event possible. The Salon du livre de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard is an event intended to bring together the province’s Francophones and Francophiles and promote reading and literacy in general as individual and collective development tools. Through its actions, it helps develop a love of reading and literature, from creation to distribution, while promoting the French culture and language.

Celtic Landscape: Mendelssohn and Roy Johnstone

The Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce that it has invited local musician Karem J Simon to conduct its February 1, 2015 concert Celtic Landscape: Mendelssohn and Roy Johnstone. A member of the UPEI music faculty and PEISO since 1991, Dr. Simon brings a wealth of musicianship and conducting experience to the PEISO podium. Under his leadership the UPEI Wind Symphony has been transformed into one of the leading wind ensembles in this region. His progressive approach to programming and performance standard has led to the creation of sixteen compact discs with that ensemble. Cathedrals, released in May 2010 received the 2011 Music PEI Award for Best Classical Recording. The Celtic Landscape: Mendelssohn and Roy Johnstone will play at the Zion Presbyterian Church at 2:30 pm on Sunday, February 1. Tickets are $44 for adults, $40 for seniors and $15 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the PEI Symphony Orchestra website .

Panther Golf Classic

Take part in the 2015 Panther Golf Classic presented by Stewart McKelvey on Thursday, June 11 at Belvedere Golf Club at 12:00 pm, shotgun start at 1:00 pm. *Registration is $700 per team or $175 for an individual. Registration includes: registration gift, green fee, golf card for two, silent auction, a wrap up banquet immediately following play and a chance to win some wonderful prizes! Young Alumni Special: Registrants who have graduated from UPEI in the past 10 years will receive a draw to receive the team registration fee back. Draw to take place at the tournament during the wrap-up banquet event. Early Bird Incentive: Teams that Register prior to April 1, 2015 will have their team entered into a $25 discount off the individual registrant fee.

Campus Job Fair

Take part in the UPEI Campus Job Fair on Thursday, March 5 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm in Schurman Market Square and Louis W. MacEachern Market Street, Don and Marion McDougall Hall. The Campus Job Fair is an event which lets students explore on campus employment opportunities and allows departments to showcase jobs they offer students. The goal of the Campus Job Fair is to increase student awareness of the opportunities on campus and provide UPEI departments, intending to hire students, with a pool of qualified candidates! Dave Mills Memorial Invitational

Come out and support the UPEI Panthers swim team during their fourth swimming competition this weekend at the CARI pool beginning on Saturday, January 17 at 4:00 pm. Racing begins Sunday at 10:00 am. Admission is free. A reception and competition naming ceremony will take place at 3:00 pm in the CARI lobby to honour long time swimming coach, Dave Mills. Community members who had the privilege to have known Coach Mills are invited to join. Light refreshments will be served.

Adjunct Graduate Faculty Seminars

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology has two candidates for Adjunct Graduate Faculty who will be presenting on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10:30 am and 11:15 am in Room 287N, AVC McCain Learning Commons. The first candidate is Huimin Xu, Research Scientist, with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. His seminar is titled "Regulatory Testing of Potato Viruses - Situation Today and Future Development." His seminar will start at 10:30 am. The second candidate is Tiago Hori, Post Doctoral Fellow, with the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada. His seminar is titled "Bioinformatics: Powering Discovery From Genomics Data" and will follow at 11:15 am. Everyone is welcome.

Career Prep and Graduate Mentorship Program info sessions

Skills PEI will be on campus on Wednesday, January 21 from 9:00 am-3:00 pm in the W.A Murphy Student Centre and the Robertson Library to provide information on their Career Prep and Graduate Mentorship Programs. The Career Prep program is an initiative designed to help students (who are graduating this year or next year) find jobs in their field of study. The Graduate Mentorship Program is an initiative designed to help post-secondary graduates find valuable work experience and mentorship opportunities in their field of study.
