Director of Enterprise Risk Management - Department of Enterprise Risk Management
$119,379 to $132,363 per annum
The Director of Enterprise Risk Management provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership to advance a mature enterprise risk management program and promote a culture of data‑driven decision‑making across the University. The role oversees traditional risk management, emergency management, business continuity, non-research contract management, and the University’s insurance portfolio. Working with existing resources and the University’s strategic plan, the Director develops and enhances frameworks, tools, and guidance to embed risk management into daily decision‑making. As a member of the Vice President of Administration and Finance leadership team, the Director ensures that enterprise risk management aligns with the University’s strategic goals, academic mission, values, policies, and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic & Operational Planning
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of multi-year and annual plans for enterprise risk management.
- Design and maintain comprehensive frameworks for:
- Enterprise risk management
- Emergency management
- Business continuity
- Integrate existing plans into cohesive, institution-wide approaches aligned with University strategic priorities.
- Oversee risk transfer (insurance portfolio) and risk mitigation activities (including contract management).
Enterprise Risk Management Execution
- Lead cross-functional projects to enhance risk management policies, procedures, systems, data standards, tools, and analytics.
- Improve data-driven decision-making through automation, reporting, and visualization.
- Support University-wide priorities in a resource-constrained environment.
Leadership & Team Administration
- Develop and manage budgets and financial plans.
- Lead employee performance, engagement, and professional development.
- Establish continuous improvement initiatives and performance measures.
- Conduct regular manager check-ins to promote accountability, trust, and effective resource deployment.
- Evaluate team performance, project outcomes, and services provided to University units.
Institutional Outcomes
- Monitor University-level performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of resources in support of strategic goals (e.g., enrollment management, academic and administrative services).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Credentials
- Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional certifications (e.g., Canadian Risk Manager, Risk Management Certification, Chartered/Certified Insurance Professional).
Experience
- Minimum of five years of progressive leadership and management experience in risk management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience in post-secondary education or not-for-profit risk management is an asset.
