The Institute of Island Studies is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant with experience in qualitative research and video/film production to assist in a project exploring population change, well-being, and quality of life on Prince Edward Island. The research aims to use visual media to profile community initiatives on PEI that foster Belonging, Inclusiveness, and Community Vitality as part of the research project “INTANGIBLE” that explores population change on small islands. The Graduate Research Assistants will be supervised by the Project Coordinator, Dr. Phil Davison.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize community gatherings across Prince Edward Island
  • Gather audio and visual data shared during community sessions
  • Participate in research team meetings and training sessions
  • Interpret and organize research findings
  • Work with film production team

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current Graduate student at UPEI
  • Experience conducting qualitative research and analysis
  • Ability to work independently and manage research tasks
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications related to film and video production

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Island Studies and Prince Edward Island
  • Experience with visual media production
  • Experience in facilitating groups
  • Knowledge of population change and well-being initiatives on Prince Edward Island
  • Ability to travel to various PEI locations

This position is covered by a Collective Agreement between the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the University of Prince Edward Island. Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students.
