PSY-4320 Clinical Psychology and Indigenous Mental Wellness
This seminar explores clinical psychology through Indigenous mental wellness frameworks. The course follows Indigenous knowledge systems, community-defined wellness, and lived experience while critically examining the historical and ongoing impacts of colonialism within psychology and mental health systems. Rather than positioning Indigenous Peoples as clinical “populations,” the course emphasizes relational accountability, cultural safety, and ethical responsibility. Students engage with Indigenous-authored scholarship and decolonizing critiques of clinical practice, research, and intervention. Learning is accomplished through dialogue and reflexivity, and is grounded in respect for Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination.
