$185.00 to $267.00 per hour (Salary and compensation for this position is in accordance with the approved Faculty of Medicine Remuneration Guidelines and consistent with the Health PEI Physician Services Agreement (PSA) remuneration. Final compensation will vary by specialty.)

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications for the position of Physician Lead, Learner Well-Being and Success. This role provides leadership and oversight for learner well-being, career advising, mentorship, and learner support initiatives across undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs in PEI. Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and working in close collaboration with the Senior Advisor of Medical Education, program leadership, faculty, and clinical partners, the Physician Lead will foster a supportive, respectful, and psychologically safe learning environment. The role is central to advancing a culture of learner wellness, professionalism, and academic success within a medical education context.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership for development of learner well-being, mentorship, and career advising initiatives across UGME and PGME programs
  • Promote and support the establishment of a respectful, inclusive, and psychologically safe learning environment in collaboration with faculty, clinical education teams, and program leadership
  • Develop and support pathways for learners who require guidance, support, or referral services
  • Collaborate with University learner support services and healthcare partners to ensure alignment and coordination of learner supports for UGME and PGME learners
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to learner well-being, professionalism, and academic progression
  • Support accreditation readiness by ensuring alignment with standards related to the learning environment, learner wellness, mistreatment prevention, and academic support (including CACMS and CanERA requirements)
  • Participate in strategic planning and evaluation of learner well-being initiatives, including identification of emerging needs and planning continuous quality improvement efforts
  • Attend regular meetings with UGME and PGME leadership and contribute to relevant committees and working groups
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Dean or their delegates

Liaison & Collaboration

  • The Physician Lead collaborates broadly across the University, healthcare partners, and community organizations to advance learner wellbeing and success in medical education

Committee Responsibilities

  • Participates in Faculty of Medicine and University governance structures and other committees as appropriate to the portfolio and as determined by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A medical degree with certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or equivalent
  • Member in good standing of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI
  • Member of the Medical Society of Prince Edward Island (MSPEI)
  • Appointees must maintain an active appointment to the medical staff of Health PEI (HPEI)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in medical education, health systems, community engagement, or related fields. Preference will be given to demonstrated experience and/or training in medical education, leadership, and quality improvement
  • Experience in medical education, learner mentorship, or academic advising
  • Demonstrated commitment to learner well-being, professionalism, and supportive educational environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and confidentiality
  • Understanding of CACMS and CanERA accreditation standards related to learner support and the learning environment
