Sessional Instructors- Faculty of Education- Winter 2027

The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in winter 2027. The offering of each course listed is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
ED-4280 Primary/Elementary Mathematics II – (1 English section, 1 French section)
A continuation of Education 4230, this course further examines and extends the pedagogy of Primary/Elementary, focusing on how children conceptualize mathematics and instructional methods required to foster children’s numeracy skills.
Section 1 is course is offered to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:30pm to 3:15pm, January 4 to February 4, 2027.
Section 3 is offered in French to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00pm to 3:45pm, January 4 to February 4, 2027.
ED-4330-1 Literacy and Multiliteracies in the Early Years II
This course is a continuation of Education 4320, in which students use language arts outcomes, materials, methods, and assessment techniques to design comprehensive literacy programs and activities.
This course is offered to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30am to 11:15am, January 4 to February 4, 2027.
ED-4370-2 Intermediate/Senior English II
Building on Ed 4360, placement experiences and a growing expertise in English education, students will critically inquire and contribute to current discussions and practices on the nature and cross-curricular scope of language and literacy. Emphasis will be on sense-making and concept development, effective writing instruction, the interactive/iterative relationship between teaching and assessment, and the evolving social/economic relevance of communication genres, modes, and media.
This course is offered to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:30pm to 3:15pm, January 4 to February 4, 2027.
ED-4972 Practicum II (up to 1 English section, and 3 French sections)
Students will complete a 10 week teaching placement with the guidance of a Faculty practicum advisor and a host mentor. Students will further develop planning and teaching effective lessons, themes and unit plans, personal classroom management skills, and assessment.
This course primarily involves in-school supervision of up to ten pre-service teachers as well as 3-4 meetings with groups of students during the semester. This course is offered February 8 to April 30, 2027.
Note: The public school system requires that all instructors possess a clean and valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have a Master of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content.
Instructors teaching online courses are expected to have sufficient internet bandwidth and technology available to deliver the course on-line.
Qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
