The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a tenure-stream Assistant Professor with expertise in Genetics.  The successful individual will teach undergraduate genetics courses such as Genetics I (BIO 2230) and Human Genetics (BIO 2240), as well as elective(s) in their area of expertise and interest.  The new professor also will apply for research grants and will contribute their expertise to mentoring and supervising undergraduate and graduate research students.  The salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.  Full-time, permanent faculty members receive a comprehensive fringe benefit package; details will be provided at time of offer in accordance with the UPEIFA collective agreement. This appointment is expected to start in July 2018 (somewhat flexible depending on availability of the successful candidate), subject to final budgetary approval.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a related field of biology and have relevant postdoctoral experience, must be committed to excellence in teaching, preferably with university teaching experience, and should have potential for developing a strong externally-funded research program, evident by a solid publication record or other peer-reviewed successes.

UPEI is a small, dynamic university with a strong commitment to teaching and research excellence. The Biology Department (http://www.upei.ca/programsandcourses/biology) is the largest of the departments in the Faculty of Science with approximately 300 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students.  Our undergraduate students may graduate with a General biology degree, a specialization (Life Sciences, Environmental Biology) or an articulated degree (Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology or Paramedicine; Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation;).  We teach service courses to students studying Nursing, Nutrition, Kinesiology and Environmental Studies.  Our graduate students and faculty research interests are in the broad areas of aquatic and marine ecology and toxicology, terrestrial ecology, and health sciences.
