The Applied Human Sciences Department at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for sessional instructors during the forthcoming Fall 2026 semester. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

FN-1010 Concepts/Controversies Nutrition (3 Credits)

This course enables non-Foods and Nutrition students to understand how food impacts their current and future health. Students will learn about current dietary recommendations and how to apply these to create a healthy eating pattern. They will also learn how to detect online nutrition misinformation. Three lecture hours NOTE: Credit will not be allowed for FN 1010 if completed after FN 2110 or after FN 1020.

FN-2610 Communications (3 Credits)

This course is an introduction to the basic principles of communication for health professionals. The course balances communication theory with skills acquisition and practice to enable students to communicate more effectively in a variety of professional settings. Students are provided with an opportunity to develop skills in interpersonal and group communication, delivering effective oral presentations, active listening, and conflict management. (Cross-listed with Kinesiology 3610). Three lecture hours Restriction: Student must be admitted to Foods and Nutrition, or Radiography, or Kinesiology programs.

FN-3510L Nutritional Assessment LAB

This course is an advanced study of current issues in nutrition assessment. Topics include dietary, anthropometric, laboratory, and clinical methods currently in use to assess nutritional status at the population and individual level; nutrition diagnosis; challenges in interpreting nutritional assessment data; and nutrition counseling. Three lecture hours, three hours laboratory. The sessional instructor will be responsible for teaching the lab only.  

F 1230 PM – 3:15 PM

FN-4610L Clinical Nutrition II LAB  

This course is a continuation of Foods and Nutrition 3520 with emphasis on the pathophysiology and medical nutrition therapy for disease states that are typically treated in a tertiary care setting such as liver and gallbladder diseases, renal system diseases, and diseases of the hematological, neurological, and respiratory systems. Additional topics such as specialized nutrition support, and medical nutrition therapy for psychiatric conditions, will also be discussed. Three lecture hours and 3 hours laboratory. The sessional instructor will be responsible for teaching the lab only.

T 1:00 PM – 3:45 PM

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold an MSc or PhD in a field related to the course content, or BSc with relevant professional designation and/or experience. Documented experience working as a clinical dietitian and current registration with the College of Dietitians of PEI will be required to teach FN-3510L and FN-4610L. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty members of the Academic unit.
