The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a 9-month term position (Lecturer/Assistant Professor) with a background in ecology to teach courses during the 2022-23 Academic Year. The course load depends on the applicant’s contribution to labs but will include Environmental Biology (BIO 1010), Ecology (BIO 2220), Genetics I (BIO 2230), an advanced ecology course, plus one other course.

UPEI is a small, dynamic university with a strong commitment to teaching and research excellence. The Biology Department (http://www.upei.ca/programsandcourses/biology) is the largest of the departments in the Faculty of Science with approximately 300 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students. Our undergraduate students may graduate with a General Biology degree, a specialization (Life Sciences, Environmental Biology) or an articulated degree (Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation, Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine). Our graduate students and faculty research interests are in the broad areas of aquatic and marine ecology and toxicology, terrestrial ecology and evolution, and health sciences.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold Ph.D. in a field related to ecology and should be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching.  Documented experience teaching any of these courses would be a definite asset.  Preference will be given to qualified candidates with experience teaching university level courses.

Salary: Commensurate with experience as per the Collective Agreement of the UPEI Faculty Association, Bargaining Unit #1 (https://files.upei.ca/agreements/2016-2020_upeifa_bu1_final.pdf).  This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

Start Date: August 1, 2022 (negotiable)
