The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for a full-time, permanent tenure-track faculty position in Aquaculture Population Health. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level, depending on qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will join an established aquatic health program. Job duties include teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs, enhancing ongoing clinical teaching and research activities with aquaculture in the Atlantic region, and liaising with provincial government aquatic health services, aquaculture industry veterinarians, production companies, and associations. The successful candidate will be expected to lead research, teaching, and service in applied solution-driven aquaculture population health (emphasis on shellfish) and collaborate with other AVC faculty in the field of aquatic health research, teaching, and service. The expectation is that the successful candidate will have an emphasis on research.


Required qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a PhD in an aquaculture field. The applicant will also have a proven track record of fish farm interactions (preferably in shellfish) to accomplish research and teaching in applied shellfish health management.


Preferred qualifications:

Preference will be given to a candidate with a DVM (or equivalent) degree, making the applicant eligible for licensure with the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association. Details on eligibility can be found at http://www.peivma.com/

A candidate who has practical experience in the delivery of health management services in shellfish aquatic population health or aquatic epidemiology is preferred. Similarly, experience in tank-based research and/or finfish/crustacean aquaculture to leverage the college’s unique research infrastructure in aquaculture is preferred. Well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship building, and communication with industry and other fish health service suppliers (e.g., provincial veterinarians) are also desired assets.


The salary range is commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time faculty members receive a comprehensive fringe benefit package, with benefit details provided at the time of offer in accordance with the collective agreement. This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
