The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a 3-year term position (Assistant Professor) with a background in vertebrate cell biology/physiology and/or Medical Biological Sciences to teach courses over a three-year term (2023-2026).  The course load depends on the applicant’s contribution to laboratory periods but could include (and not be limited to) BIO-3260 Intro Organism Cell Physio, BIO-3720 Virology, BIO-3750 Medical Microbiology, BIO-4020 Comparative Vertebrate Physiology, and BIO-4050 Medical Biology.

UPEI is a small, dynamic university with a strong commitment to teaching and research excellence. The Biology Department (http://www.upei.ca/programsandcourses/biology) is the largest of the departments in the Faculty of Science with approximately 500 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students.  Our undergraduate students may graduate with a General Biology degree, a specialization (Life Sciences, Environmental Biology) or an articulated degree (Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation, Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine).  Our graduate students and faculty research interests are in the broad areas of neurobiology, cancer cell biology, watershed ecology, coastal habitat ecology, animal habitat fragmentation, heart and stroke physiology, aquatic toxicology, population genetics and evolution, among others.

Qualifications:  Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a field related to vertebrate cell biology physiology or Medical Biology. They should be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and be involved in research.  Documented experience teaching any of the courses listed above would be a definite asset.  Preference will be given to qualified candidates with experience teaching university level courses.

Salary: Commensurate with experience as per the Collective Agreement of the UPEI Faculty Association, Bargaining Unit #1 (https://www.upeifa.ca/working-at-upei/collective-agreements/).  This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

Start Date: August 1, 2023 (negotiable)
