The UPEI Department of Music is pleased to announce the award recipients of the 2022 Dr. Frances Gray Performance Competition, which took place on March 3. Alexandra Sorensen, soprano, won first place with a $1,000 scholarship; Olive MacPhail, tuba, second place with a $750 scholarship; and Devyn Collette, saxophone, third place with a scholarship of $500.

The preliminary round was held on February 19, and five performers were recommended by a panel of faculty adjudicators to participate in the competition. The performance competition recital may be viewed on the UPEI Department of Music’s YouTube channel.

The competition is named in honour of Dr. Frances Gray, Professor Emerita, in recognition of her 45 years of devoted teaching, scholarship, and service to UPEI. Dr. Gray, who retired from UPEI in 2014, coordinated this event for many years.
