Career Pathways and Advancement for BIS Graduates
UPEI’s Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree offers a pathway for many working professionals who want to leverage education, experience, and a diploma for a stronger workplace position.
What can I do with my BIS degree?
Administrative professionals and interns in government, education, business, and health-related fields use their BIS degree to upgrade their roles to policy and program development. Many government and business internships also require a bachelor’s degree, making the BIS program the most effective pathway to a degree.

Creative practitioners in music, design, writing, or a host of artisanal traditions, these “creatives” are looking for support, inspiration, skills, and credentialing that allow them to diversify their income streams to things like teaching, nonprofit leadership, production, marketing, and expanding networks.

Prospective school teachers can leverage the BIS as excellent preparation for UPEI’s 12-month Bachelor of Education (BEd) program. You can design your BIS with the courses and experience you need to present a profile for BEd entrance—and our UPEI Education team values mature students in their cohorts. Education assistants can use the BIS to deepen and extend their classroom responsibilities as they lay out a path for a career.

Prospective UPEI graduate students - BIS students are eligible for entry into UPEI’s interdisciplinary graduate programs, including the Master of Arts in Island Studies program, Master of Cleantech Leadership and Transformation program, Master of Education program (with teaching experience), and the Master of Business Administration in Global Leadership program. These programs combine practical, theoretical, and research-based learning that is needed in fields like policy development, non-profit management, community leadership, government administration, and many creative and entrepreneurial ventures.

Workers in traditional PEI industries like farming, fishing, wildlife management, and tourism and hospitality require increasingly sophisticated baselines of knowledge and skills. The BIS can enhance the capacity of committed students to advance in these fields.
