New bat species recorded on Prince Edward Island
Bat populations have been under siege in recent years because of the deadly white-nose syndrome, but researchers on Prince Edward Island got some good news earlier this fall. The eastern red bat (Lasiurus borealis), a species not previously identified in the province, has been recorded in the PEI National Park.

The University of Prince Edward Island has launched “UPEI Panther Pitch,” a program in which aspiring UPEI student entrepreneurs can submit their start-up idea for a chance to win a minimum of $5,000 in seed money, with up to a total of $45,000 being granted each year.

UPEI’s EMBA program offers a high-quality learning experience for working business professionals. The program is designed for those working in, or aspiring to work, in a management or leadership position. Classes are offered bi-weekly on Fridays and Saturdays with the option to complete the program in 20 months.

UPEI Cross Country to run in the Gray Group Cross Country Race at Fox Meadow
The Gray Group, Fox Meadow Golf Course in Stratford, and the UPEI Cross Country team invite members of the public to come out and give cross-country running a try at beautiful Fox Meadow on Saturday, November 14. Proceeds will go to the UPEI Cross Country team. The cost to register is just $20.
The races will take place on the golf course’s fairways, with 8 km and 5 km options on a looped course.
An evening of student solo and chamber performances
The UPEI Music Department is pleased to present a showcase recital featuring selected student solo and chamber performances to be held at UPEI Dr. Steel Building, on Thursday, November 26, at 7:30 pm. Admission is FREE, however anyone interested in attending must fill out the attendance sheet found at this link by no later than noon, Tuesday, November 24.
PEI Symphony Orchestra performance to feature UPEI’s Magdalena von Eccher
Join the PEI Symphony Orchestra on November 22, at 2:30 pm, at the Confederation Centre of the Arts as they present chamber performances by two new Charlottetown residents, including UPEI’s recently appointed assistant professor of piano, Magdalena von Eccher. von Eccher will be joined by her husband, pianist Glen Montgomery, both of whom are recognized amongst Canada’s outstanding musicians.
