Meet Abby Gibson, UPEI Modern Languages graduate (Class of 2022)

What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?

I’m from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and I chose to study at UPEI because I liked the idea of smaller class sizes to be able to have closer contact with my professors and classmates. Also, being an Islander, the funding opportunities for Island students gave me the chance to study debt free.

Sydney Cummins and Kamari Scott named UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for February 6–12 are Sydney Cummins (women’s basketball) and Kamari Scott (men’s basketball).

Cummins, a science student from Wolfville, Nova Scotia, played two great games against Cape Breton University. The second-year guard recorded a double-double, averaging 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds on 53.3 per cent shooting with 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals, as the Panthers split the weekend series.

Celebration of J.J. Steinfeld’s literary achievements and contributions to take place on March 9

The Bookmark and the UPEI Faculty of Arts and English department will host a celebration of author J.J. Steinfeld’s literary achievements and contributions to the culture of PEI, Canada, and beyond on Thursday, March 9, at 7:00 pm. The celebration will take place in The Carriage House at Beaconsfield, 2 Kent Street, Charlottetown.

CBC’s 2023 Black Changemakers for PEI include UPEI community members

Earlier this month—Black History Month—the Canadian Broadcasting Company named five people 2023 Black Changemakers for Prince Edward Island. Four of the five have connections to the UPEI community.

Black Changemakers is a CBC editorial series “recognizing individuals in Atlantic Canada who are creating positive change, inspiring others, and helping shape our future.” Each year, the series highlights 20 people in Atlantic Canada, five from each province.

UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering holds inaugural Industry and Career Day

Students in the UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) got the chance to meet with potential employers at the faculty’s inaugural Industry and Career Day held on February 2. 

The event was hosted by the FSDE Industry Partnership Group (IPG), the Engineering Student Success Centre, and the Student Engineering Society, and emceed by Wayne Simmons, business development engineer with the IPG.
