New research published about the impacts of mobile work on the lives of Canadian families

A recently published book entitled Families, Mobility, and Work highlights new research and insights on the intersection of family life, employment, and mobility in Canada. An estimated 16% of Canada’s labour force engages in extended or complex mobility related to their work; yet little research attention has been paid on the impacts of this mobility on their families and home communities.

UPEI Faculty Recital- to be rescheduled

The UPEI Department of Music's faculty recital, Autumn Colours, previously scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 7:30 pm, in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall will be rescheduled as the University is closed until October 3 due to tropical storm Fiona.

 

String players Jeffrey Bazett-Jones (viola), Sean Kemp (violin), and Natalie Williams Calhoun (cello) will collaborate with Magdalena von Eccher (piano) and Karem Simon (clarinet) in presenting this chamber music recital of trios by Mozart, Stravinsky, and Brahms.

Nominations now open for the Atlantic Veterinary College's 2022 Green Hat Award

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Honourable Eugene F. Whelan Green Hat Award.  

Established in 2000, the award recognizes individuals who have played a direct role in the growth of the AVC and who have supported the College’s vision, reputation, and continued success. It is the greatest honour bestowed by the AVC.

Cancelled: Honour and Reflection before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Due to the University closure caused by tropical storm Fiona, unfortunately, the Honour and Reflection Gathering has been cancelled.

 

The Mawi'omi Indigenous Student Centre and the UPEI Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS) will be coming together to honour and reflect on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Kinesiology students seeking participants for exercise training program

Students from UPEI’s Kinesiology 3430 class are seeking participants to take part in a 4-week exercise training program, plus pre and post assessment sessions (6-weeks total). Students will create personalized exercise training programs for each participant, based on their fitness, skill level, and personal interests.  The program will take place in the UPEI Fitness Centre, and costs $30 + HST.

Couple honours dog's memory with scholarship to the Atlantic Veterinary College

Matthew Latimer and Shama Huda met Gizmo on a June day in 2014. Friends had told them about a little Shih-Tzu who was surrendered to a local rescue, and they wanted to meet him to see if he might be a good fit for their family.

“When we arrived, he was standing on his back legs turning in circles for treats,” explains Huda. “There was an immediate connection that’s hard to explain. We just knew he was ours.”
