UPEI Asian Studies hosts seminars on March 27 and April 3

The UPEI Department of Asian Studies is presenting two seminars, one on March 27 and the other on April 3.

On March 27, Dr. Richard Kim, associate professor, Department of Philosophy, Loyola University, Chicago, will give a lecture titled “The Contemporary Significance of Confucianism: A Guide to Wellbeing and Good Life” from 2:15–4:00 pm, in the Faculty Lounge (Room 201), SDU Main Building, UPEI. The lecture is part of the Asian Studies International Seminar: Confucian Studies Speaker Series 2025.

UPEI Choral Concert

The UPEI Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Voice majors as soloists, under the musical direction of Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, will present Mozart's Requiem. Included in the program are a variety of choral gems. Director Shin-Bouey is especially excited to premiere one of her recent arrangements, Sae Ta-Ryeong (Bird Song), a traditional Korean folk song.

UPEI Nursing Student Society holds teddy bear clinic for children in Campus Kids Daycare

Children in the Campus Kids Daycare Centre’s kindergarten class took their beloved stuffed toys to a teddy bear clinic hosted by the UPEI Nursing Student Society on March 17 in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Much to the children’s delight, the students showed them how to check their teddies’ hearts, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. The students also x-rayed and treated “broken” and “sprained” limbs and tails, treated sore tummies, and made all the toys—and their young owners—feel better.

AVC Diagnostic Imaging Candidate Presentation

The Department of Companion Animals will interview Dr. Julia Cusack for a tenure-track faculty position in Diagnostic Imaging. Dr. Cusack will be on campus on Wednesday, March 19, and Thursday,  March 20,2025. 

Dr. Cusack received her DVM in 2019 from the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI. She then completed a large animal rotating internship and is currently completing an DVSc and clinical residency program in Diagnostic Imaging at the Ontario Veterinary College.

UPEI Philosophy reading group meeting

The UPEI Philosophy reading group will meet on Thursday, March 20, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in downtown Charlottetown (the exact location is TBD). All are welcome.

During this gathering, we will discuss Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative? The following passages capture the spirit of the book:

UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering holds annual student awards

The UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) Student Awards ceremony was held on March 4, 2025. This annual event celebrated the accomplishments of the students and the generosity of the donors who support them. 

The awards recognize sustainability, academic success, and leadership and include entrance awards from the beginning of the year as well as fall and winter awards. Students who are on the Dean’s list were also celebrated.
