The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre is launching a Provincial ADHD Program for Adults on PEI.  The program is funded by the Department of Social Development and Housing and UPEI.  The program is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) as part of the team of professionals who will support individuals who are living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The RN will provide direct service and work closely with other members of the Provincial ADHD Program. The RN will report directly to the Director of the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct clinical service to individuals 16+ who are referred to the Provincial ADHD Program
  • Participate in team meetings, coaching and mentoring sessions and individual/group counselling sessions
  • Coordinate the daily activities of the clinic – provide direction to the ADS-5 team members
  • Triage incoming referrals – review with other team members as required
  • Manage wait list and review with team periodically. Update referrals as required
  • Provide follow up care to individuals newly diagnosed as well as monitoring of individuals on treatment
  • Coordinate team meetings; prepare agendas and ensure meeting materials are sent out in advance
  • Develop processes for documentation management
  • Collect statistics/report to director
  • Lead the program in protocol/policy development, ensuring they reflect the philosophy of best practices in ADHD care, including health education, counselling, and interventions to promote health living and reduce secondary issues related to unmanaged ADHD
  • Coordinate ongoing team educational opportunities
  • Provide high quality front-line nursing services; may include assessment, triage, venipuncture, vital signs, etc.
  • Assist with the collection of collateral data on patients – this could include working with families/schools, friends to obtain old report cards, job performance reviews, having family members complete questionnaires/surveys in advance of appointments. Work with the ADS-5 to ensure chart complete prior to initial visit with clinicians
  • Work with outside agencies to develop processes to provide outreach to vulnerable populations:  e.g. Provincial Corrections Department
  • Work with administrative assistant to develop processes for intake, handling of referrals, how to screen into the program and appropriate use of the program
  • Work with pediatricians to develop a process to transition 16-year-old over to the provincial team
  • Maintain and protect confidential records and case reporting consistent with policy, procedures, and ethical standards
  • May liaise with other program/population areas (e.g. Holland College, Provincial Corrections, 2SLGBTQIA etc.). This could include assessing the clinical needs of these communities and augment traditional clinical service with evidence informed clinical outreach
  • Performing other duties as required to facilitate the functioning of the Provincial ADHD Program for Adults, which includes but is not limited to contributing to operational policy development and day to day functioning of the clinic
     

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must have a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, with preference given to those with a Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Applicants must be eligible for registration with the PEI College of Registered Nurses; where currently registered, must be a member in good standing
  • Prior experience working with adults with ADHD would be considered an asset
  • Ability to liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders (e.g., UPEI/Holland College students, Provincial Correctional Facility, etc.)
  • Demonstrated strengths in clinical work with cultural and other group and personal diversities
  • Demonstrated effective professional skill including time management, interpersonal skills, oral and written skills, effective team building skills, collaborative, and consultative practice skills
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, FOIPP, Consent to Treatment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child Protection Act, Health Professions Act, and other legislative frameworks as needed
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Nurse’s Association Code of Ethics
  • CPR Certification
