$115,268 to $127,799 per annum

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the director of the CLSC will support the mission of the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing by directing the operations of the CLSC to provide academic and technical support in a teaching environment that supports and practices safety while assisting clinical faculty and healthcare educators to meet or exceed curriculum objectives. The director of the CLSC will assist in the creation of an education experience which excels in fostering realistic, innovative, and collaborative practice, and will serve as the key administrator, overseeing all day-to-day operations of the CLSC; provide leadership for centre staff, budget, and promotion/marketing of CLSC programs throughout the Faculties of Medicine and Nursing and to Medical Educators.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing the day-to-day activities of the Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre (hereafter referred to as the Centre) staff
  • Developing and implementing shared services and equipment agreements, policies and procedures for the Centre
  • Serving on all Centre user and education committees representing the Centre’s operations
  • Developing, monitoring, and reporting on budgetary functions of the Centre
  • Recruiting, arranging training, managing, and evaluating operations and support staff
  • Managing the Centre booking to schedule all activities in the center ensuring optimal utilization, including all scheduled events, faculty training, or other related activities
  • Ensuring education and training records are accurate and available for evaluations and accreditation
  • Preparing annual activity reports for senior administration
  • Working with academic administration on institutional accreditation as required
  • Overseeing all equipment and consumables and ensuring adequate levels of same
  • Negotiating and maintaining equipment warranties and maintenance contracts
  • Negotiating and developing contracts with external clients
  • Understanding the functionality of the equipment used in the Centre, including software and simulation equipment
  • Ensuring the operations of the Centre are aligned and consistent with user and institution expectations
  • Developing evaluation tools to measure customer satisfaction and quality
  • Maintaining professional skills and staying current with national and international advances in simulation and clinical skills operations
  • Representing the Centre at local and national conferences and participating and presenting to professional organizations
  • Performing other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a Graduate Degree in business, health administration or related field; and/or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience (7-10 years) in operations, management, or other key administrative roles in a medical education environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as proficiency in the use of computer hardware and software are required
  • Excellent analytical thinking; planning and organizational abilities; strong leadership and strategic thinking would be essential to the role
  • Experience managing operations in a clinical skills centre or medical simulation environment would be considered an asset
  • Experience within a post-secondary institution would be considered an asset
  • Experience working with a regional health authority would be considered an asset
