The Dean’s Office at the Atlantic Veterinary College is currently accepting applications for a full-time External Engagement Officer. This position reports to the Dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) and works collaboratively with the University’s Director of Communications and University Relations and Executive Director, Development and Alumni Engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Development and Implementation

  • Development and implementation of high level, long-term communications, alumni, donor and client engagement strategy
  • Promoting the AVC’s initiatives, successes and world-class standing to both internal and external audiences
  • Fostering positive interest in and connection to AVC, its expertise and initiatives in an effort to increase awareness of the College
  • To continually build, enhance, and protect AVC’s reputation and profile

Relations with Alumni, Donor, Clients, Media and other stakeholders

  • Develop and manage AVC’s communications strategy in a manner that nurtures effective, pro-active media relations, increases AVC’s profile and engagement with alumni, donors, clients and other stakeholders
  • Serve as AVC’s primary media contact
  • Provide consultation, advice, and coaching to AVC spokespersons
  • Liaise with media and nurture relations with media professionals to aid in the promotion of AVC story and feature ideas
  • Provide ongoing issues management and identify media opportunities

Social Media Development

  • Develop a social media communications strategy and policies for the AVC
  • Guide the development and production of social media materials
  • Manage the AVC social media platforms
  • Provide ongoing issues management related to social media interactions

Material Development and Special Projects

  • Play a key role in the development, coordination, editing, and production of key AVC promotional and communications materials (e.g., AVC press releases, AVC Annual Fund, AVC Newsletter)
  • Manage special projects
  • Supervise the AVC External Engagement Assistant and staff for the Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camps
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to direct reports and colleagues in a manner that fosters growth, development, and a team approach
  • Provide expertise and leadership through active participation on a number of AVC and UPEI committees

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors or Professional Degree with a focus on public relations, communications, or marketing
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a related field
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Superior written communications skills
  • Ability to effectively interact and liaise with diverse groups at all levels
  • Experience in nurturing relations with media professionals and through social media challenges
  • Experience in relationship building with groups such as alumni, donors and clients
  • Preference will be given to someone with university advancement relations experience
  • Experience supervising/managing staff
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
