The GeoREACH lab in the Applied, Communications, Leadership & Culture program is seeking a Research Assistant with experience in Digital Humanities and Historical Geographic Information Systems to support research on land use, food, and policy history in Atlantic Canada. The Research Assistant will be supervised by the Director, Dr. Joshua MacFadyen. The GeoREACH lab supports Geospatial Research in Atlantic Canadian History and other projects of the ACLC program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read workflows and produce technical documentation and summaries
  • Assist team members with data entry QA/QC and summaries
  • Participate in a weekly team meeting
  • Interpret and organize research results in databases
  • Work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current UPEI Student
  • Experience with data management and databases
  • Experience with GIS
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
  • Knowledge of Prince Edward Island history
  • Knowledge of food and agriculture
  • Ability to travel to various PEI archives
