Student Laboratory Assistant (Up to 6 Positions) - Department of Modern Languages - Faculty of Arts
$18.70 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
September 8, 2026 to April 30, 2027
The Department of Modern Languages at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for part-time student positions for Fall and Winter semesters 2026-2027. We are seeking students with competency in French and Spanish to run our Spanish Labs (for Spanish 1010 and 1020), French labs (for French 1010 and French 1020), as well as upper-level students in French to run French Conversation sessions for our lower-level French courses (French 2210 and French 2220).
Please note that both the Labs and Conversation sessions are to be conducted in person.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attending training and orientation sessions
- Using various software programs in the running of the language lab
- For French conversation: creating pedagogical content to motivate students to express themselves orally on a variety of topics
- Evaluate students’ abilities according to a template and provide an evaluation to the professor at the end of each semester
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Spanish labs: preference will be given to students completing a major or minor in Spanish and/or who demonstrate a high level of competency with the Spanish language
- French labs and Conversation: preference will be given to students completing a major or minor in French and/or who demonstrate a high level of competency with the French language
- Strong interpersonal skills are required
- Reliability and dependability are a must
