The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking a Research Assistant to work on research in coastal change monitoring outreach and education. The CCCCA is a 45,000-square-foot research facility in St. Peter’s Bay, PEI. The facility and the surrounding lands serve as a living laboratory that allows unlimited access to nearby wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats. The CCCCA is a world-leading research and teaching centre for understanding and adapting to climate change impacts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The research focus of this position will include:
- Developing, planning, organizing, and hosting public engagement sessions with a focus on coastal processes, coastal change policy and monitoring techniques
- Facilitating interactive learning opportunities demonstrating the installation of coastal change monitoring pegs, RPAS coastal change monitoring techniques, and more
- Analysing and disseminating decadal coastal change data collected by the University of Prince Edward Island
- Creating video content and interactive materials that will be accessible online for individuals
- Developing and updating StoryMaps to host educational videos and coastal monitoring data
- Developing and distributing site profiles for all UPEI coastal monitoring locations
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Writing research reports and project proposals
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master’s degree, or undergraduate degree and 5+ years’ experience, in environmental science/studies or a related field
- Must have experience with RPAS and peg-line coastal change monitoring
- Experience with public engagement, community outreach, or science communication
- Knowledge of coastal processes, coastal erosion, and environmental monitoring techniques
- Proficiency in software programs such as ArcGIS, StoryMaps and Pix4D
- Familiarity with creating educational content for diverse audiences is required
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and local communities
- Strong data analysis skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple research tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary research team
