The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for Sessional Instructors during the forthcoming Winter 2023 semester subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: all courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

BIO 1320-1 ORGANISMS & THEIR ENVIRONMENT
(Classes: M/W/F 10:30 – 11:20)

BIO 1320-2 ORGANISMS & THEIR ENVIRONMENT
(Classes: M/W/F 11:30 – 12:20)

This course provides an introduction to the science of Biology, with emphasis on organismal biology and unifying themes. The course deals with evolution, the diversity of life, form and function, and ecology. Part of the laboratory component involves training in dissection techniques.

Note:  Due to high enrollments, this course is offered in two separate sections.   The sessional instructor will be responsible for teaching all lectures and will not be responsible for instructing the lab component.

BIO 4010 – HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY & PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
(Classes:  T/Th 8:30)

Note:  The instructor will be responsible for instructing the lecture component only.

This course is an in-depth overview of the function of human organ systems emphasizing the effects of disease states. It is designed for students interested in human health professions, such as Nurse Practitioners. The course covers nervous & endocrine systems and disorders; cardio- pulmonary, blood, immune & exercise physiology, and related diseases; fluid and metabolic balance and related disorders; and pregnancy. Laboratories focus on physiological principles, diseases, and application of knowledge in case studies.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a field of science/biology related to the respective course content. Documented experience teaching these courses would be a definite asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster, and to those with experience in teaching university level courses.
