The Department of Modern Languages of the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for Sessional Instructors for the Winter 2023 Semester. We are seeking instructors to teach the following courses in the Department of Modern Languages. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: all courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

FR-1010 French Language and Culture I (3 Credits – cross listed with FR-1210)

This course proposes fundamentals of French and French culture through a progressive acquisition of basic communication skills and an understanding of the practices and products of French language and Francophone cultures. This course is open only to students who have a limited background in French. The French Placement test is mandatory in order to enroll. Three hours a week plus lab or online.

FR-1210 Basic French I (3 Credits – cross listed with FR-1010)

This course is designed for students who have completed (or almost completed) the high school French core program, for those who have completed 1020, or those who are placed into the course through the Placement Test. The major grammar points are studied in order to take the student from the most elementary vocabulary to an ability to function adequately in simple everyday situations. The French Placement test is mandatory in order to enroll. Three hours a week plus lab or online.

FR-2520 Le Français des Affaires (3 Credits)

This course is oriented towards French oral and written communication in the business setting. The world of business is examined from the angle of its vocabulary related to job searches, the C.V., administrative and commercial correspondence, as well as communication as it is used in and outside of the workplace. (Cross-Listed with Business 2530). Three hours a week plus conversation class

ML-2090 Writing Skills for Esl Learners (3 Credits)      

Writing for ESL Learners helps students prepare for writing-intensive first-year university English courses such as English/UPEI 1010 (Academic Writing/Writing Studies). This course gives students time and practice to build their writing skills by challenging them to use a variety of writing modes, analyze ideas, incorporate evidence, and think critically. In the process, students learn how to draft, revise, and edit their writing.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have a graduate degree or a doctoral degree.

Note:  Members of the Department of Modern Languages Sessional Roster will be given priority in consideration for this position.
