Diagnostic Services (DS) at the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for a full-time Quality Manager to work under the direction of the Director of Diagnostic Services. The successful applicant  will be responsible for further development, implementation and maintenance of AVC Diagnostic Service’s Quality Management System (QMS) to meet or exceed the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards for maintenance of accreditation status with the Standard Council of Canada (SCC) and to broaden the scope.  The Quality Manager will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the ISO/IEC 17043 standards for the accreditation of the Veterinary Laboratory Association Proficiency Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Manager is a team member of Diagnostic Services reporting to the Director of Diagnostic Services with direct access to the Dean of AVC. The primary responsibilities associated with this role will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Oversight of all of AVC Diagnostic Services from a quality perspective to ensure complete compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO/IEC 17043 standards by working independently or with the assistance of others
  • Author, research and/or review all quality documents needed to develop and maintain AVC’s QMS
  • Manage all incident reporting through corrective and preventative actions, including root cause analysis, risk review and follow-up actions
  • Lead internal and external quality auditing of AVC Diagnostic Services, Clients, and critical material suppliers
  • Train all Diagnostic Services personnel on policies and procedures necessary for AVC’s QMS to ensure compliance and competency to ISO standards, including biosafety standards for each laboratory
  • Prepare for the annual Management Review Meetings which present and review all incidents, audits, and other quality activities for the year to the Management Team including the Dean of AVC
  • Responsible for direct supervision of technical/administrative staff
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • An undergraduate degree in science is required
  • ISO/IEC 17025 certified training is required
  • 10 years of combined experience with a minimum of 5 years in a QA Supervisory or Management roll and a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience in a diagnostic or analytical laboratory. Experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory would be considered an asset
  • Management training would be an asset
  • Quality Assurance Management experience, specifically with ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17043 would be an asset
  • Standard Council of Canada (SCC) ISO/IEC 17025 and/or ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation auditing experience would be an asset
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team member is required
  • Effective interpersonal relationship skills with demonstrated ability to lead & motivate is required
  • Excellent working knowledge of a variety of software applications such as MS word, Excel, Quality Management System Software is needed
  • Ability to effectively deliver quality training to all staff and managers is needed
  • Excellent planning and organization skills, thoroughness and attention to detail are needed
