The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Languages at Work program as part of its Explore Spring and Summer Language Program. The Program Coordinator will also work part-time as an EAL Instructor in the Explore Program.   This year, the program will be offered completely online.

The Languages at Work program is a joint initiative of the Explore program and Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages / Fédération de la Jeunesse Canadienne-Française. Designed for Explore bursary recipients, Languages at Work offers participants unique opportunities to continue learning their second language in a professional context. The program is intended to offer young Canadians opportunities to deepen their knowledge and appreciation of Canada's official languages through a work experience (online or in-person) which requires them to use their second official language. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the program with potential employers for 2022
  • Compile a list of all the employers approached by the project officer for their participation in the program
  • Produce an activity report at the end of the program and submit this report to the YCW / FJCF
  • Run weekly workshops with the spring program participants (virtually) on employment related skills such as resume and cover letter writing, labour market information, mock interviews, etc. 
  • Online EAL instruction
  • Online course design             
  • Formative and summative evaluations of student achievement
  • Participation in weekly staff meetings
  • Acting as a role model to students and staff by upholding and reinforcing the rules and regulations of the Explore Program
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in a BA or B.Ed. program, or other degree with equivalent work experience
  •  Proficiency in French and English
  • Access to transportation (expenses reimbursed) as travel to meet potential employers in the local community and/or monitor work placements will be necessary
  • The successful candidate will also be required to attend a virtual training session provided by the federal funder, FJCF
  • Candidates must also have proficiency in English and a valid criminal record check (must include vulnerable sector check) 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • EAL teaching certificate or EAL teaching experience; experience working in cross-cultural settings
  • Demonstrated proficiency with online teaching technologies such as Zoom and Google Meet 

This position is funded by the Young Canada Works / Fédération de la Jeunesse Canadienne-Française (YCW /FJCF) program; therefore, the candidate must:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
  • Have been a full-time student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding their job with YCW
  • Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following their job with YCW / FJCF
