Sessional Instructor - Department of Chemistry - Faculty of Science (Winter 2023)
The Department of Chemistry has an opening for sessional instructor for the upcoming Winter Semester 2023 (January – April 2023) to teach Chemistry 4140 – Marine Natural Products Chemistry. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: all courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
CHEM 4140 – Marine Natural Products Chemistry
This course covers the subject matter of natural product chemistry.
Three lecture hours a week
Prerequisite: Chem 2410 or Chem 2430
The overall goal of the course is to provide a description of the structures and biosynthetic origins of natural products of marine origin. The main classes of natural products will be reviewed with an emphasis on their biological origin as a tool to understanding structures. The biomedical relevance of marine natural products will be discussed along with special topics lectures on such themes as "From lead compound to FDA approval" and "Development of a natural product drug lead". Additional lectures on biological screening and metabolomics as modern tools in drug discovery, and chromatographic purification of natural products will round out the discussions.
Qualifications:
• Successful applicants will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related area
• Priority will be given to qualified individuals on the sessional roster of the academic unit
