The Department of Student Affairs at UPEI invites applications to fill a student development position to support student success as students learn to navigate university life. Reporting to the Coordinator of Pathways to Academic Success, the PAS Facilitator has two main responsibilities: developing and coordinating student engagement programs; and providing academic coaching in both an individual and group setting. Student Affairs seeks a candidate who is enthusiastic about helping to foster a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement student engagement programming, in particular, continue to grow the Campus Life Program to meet the needs of UPEI’s diverse student population. Collaborate with other stakeholders (International Student Office, Student Union, etc.) when appropriate.
  • Hire, train and supervise student staff who will provide student life programing for the campus - both online and in person
  • Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office and the International Student Office to assist in support of students who are required to self-isolate or quarantine
  • Meet with students online or in person to develop effective study skills and strategies including, but not limited to, time management, effective reading and note taking, presentation skills, etc.
  • Create online academic support resource materials
  • Create and deliver academic support presentations to campus groups and classes - video and/or in person
  • Make effective referrals to on campus resources including Accessibility Services and Counselling Services
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BEd preferable). Master’s degree an asset
  • Three (3) years of experience working with students at the post-secondary level
  • Experience developing and implementing programming that enhances student engagement
  • Experience hiring, training, and supervising student staff
  • Knowledge of the student life cycle and understanding the importance of referrals to appropriate supports
  • Experience working in a diverse community
  • Ability to work with students to develop effective study strategies in a one on one and/or group setting. Experience using online educational platforms is an asset
  • Experience working with online social media platforms to promote student engagement
  • Effective time management, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively independently and with a team
