An interdisciplinary research project entitled Access to Music Education, examining equity in music education, invites students to apply for positions to assist with some or all of the following tasks: project management, survey analysis, workshop organization, development of ethics proposals, behavioural research (testing of participants, data collection, data analysis). The assistant is expected to apply their knowledge as a foundation for learning various skills required to accomplish these tasks. Under the overall supervision of the project’s Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator, and Steering Committee (for the management tasks) and UPEI Faculty member(s) responsible for specific research projects, the position will entail independent work and teamwork. The student is expected to engage as part of the interdisciplinary team of students, faculty investigators, and other professionals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Literature review
  • Project management (communications, filing, meeting support, workshop organization)
  • Quantitative and qualitative data collection (interviews/survey)
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Reporting
  • Research ethics proposal development
  • Research design and analysis, including interviews and online testing
  • Training other assistants in routine tasks

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be enrolled in a Graduate Program
  • Preference will be given to graduate students Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Education, Interdisciplinary Studies, Island Studies, Music Education, Music Technology, Psychology, Statistics. Note: Graduate student implies enrollment in a research-intensive post-baccalaureate program
  • Ability to work both independently without supervision and with a team
  • Academic achievement
  • Capacity to exercise confidentiality and conscientiousness
  • Experience with data collection and analysis
  • Experience with SPSS, R, NVivo, Matlab or other data analysis software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, HTML
  • Superior organizational skills and record-keeping ability
  • Courses in education, management, organizational behavior, statistics, database systems, psychology, music, or similar skills acquired outside of course work
  • Demonstrated intercultural competency (e.g., bilingualism/multilingualism, Indigenous and international experiences, and cultural exposure)
  • Music Education background
  • Familiarity with the PEI educational system
  • Familiarity with issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion
