Under the mentorship of the Office of Graduate Studies at UPEI, the Graduate Studies Student Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the updating of various documentation and organizing events.

This position is being funded through the Federal Government's Canada Summer Jobs Program. Eligibility criteria is set by the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Edit and update documentation required for Graduate Programs
  • Organize confidential office files and purge/archive files based on data retention guidelines
  • Coordinate and organize events for Graduate students, including social events and professional development events
  • Develop and plan orientation and support sessions for new Graduate students.
  • Assist with planning for Graduate Conference
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong communication skills, extra emphasis on written communication
  • Knowledge of UPEI Graduate studies and event planning experience would be assets, but are not required
  • Student should have strong work ethic with attention to detail
  • Student must have strong computer skills, experience with MS Office Suite
  • Student must have strong organizational skills

Eligibility Criteria for Canada Summer Jobs:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
