The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences is seeking one undergraduate Research Assistant to assist with a UPEI Internal Research Grant-funded project on keyword extraction methods.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate the performances of state-of-the-art keyword extraction methods on standard benchmark textual document collections
  • Keyword extraction methods are text analysis methods that automatically extract the most relevant terms in a document of interest
  • Undertake a literature review to survey the state-of-the-art in automated keyword extraction
  • Implement a novel keyword extraction method, and compare its performance with the surveyed methods on benchmark keyword extraction tasks
  • The goal of this study is to show that the novel keyword extraction method outperforms the state-of-the-art in the niche domain of short texts

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Student enrolled in a program at UPEI
  • Strong background in Python
  • Experience with data preprocessing and analysis
  • Familiarity with basic probability and statistics
  • Prior research experience is considered an asset
