Research assistance is required for data analysis and data acquisition. The student(s) will be expected to apply their knowledge to learn various skills required to accomplish these tasks. Assistance with publication is expected, with co-authorship dependent on intellectual contribution and responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The work will entail the following:
• Analysis of data of human vocalization and musical and verbal creativity
• Testing participants in a psychology study
• Ingesting content into a digital library
• Web-site or social media updating
• Other research-related tasks as required, e.g., grant preparation
• Support for university/community research-related initiatives
• Editorial support
• Lab management

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Priority will be given to students with background in psychology, music (particularly vocal studies), and linguistics, having, or willing to learn, computer skills
• Superior communication skills; ability to work responsibly without supervision
• The following courses would be considered an asset: Research methods, Statistics, Music Psychology, Psycholinguistics, Linguistics
• Good organizational skills and record-keeping ability
• Capacity to exercise confidentiality and conscientiousness
• International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), HTML, French bilingual
• Music background/singing experience (formal training)
• Knowledge of music notation software, CHILDES and/or Praat speech analysis software
