Student Assistant - Wellness Education and Engagement - UPEI Health and Wellness Centre
$17.60 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
June 2 – August 29, 2025
The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre is dedicated to providing inclusive, high-quality care to our campus community. To further our commitment to patient-centered care, we are seeking a motivated and engaged student to join us as a Wellness Education and Engagement Student Assistant. In this role, the incumbent will support efforts to ensure that patients have a meaningful voice in shaping the services, policies, and environment that impact their health and well-being.
Reporting to the Manager, the Wellness Education and Engagement Student Assistant will contribute to the overall well-being of the UPEI community by:
- Supporting the development of a Patient Advisory Committee and fostering ongoing student involvement in campus health and wellness initiatives
- Increasing the visibility, accessibility, and impact of health promotion efforts across the UPEI campus
- Enhancing the effectiveness of digital media and communication materials used by the Health and Wellness Centre
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will support the Health and Wellness Centre through the following activities:
Patient Advisory Committee (PAC)
- Research Best Practices: Explore how health care organizations across Canada have set up Patient Advisory Committees and/or Lived Experience Committees. Identify useful strategies, committee structures, and lessons learned to help shape a strong and inclusive PAC at UPEI
- Stakeholder Engagement: Recommend ways to gather input from a wide range of campus groups (students, staff, faculty, and family members) with a focus on including underrepresented voices to ensure the PAC reflects the full diversity of the UPEI community
- Framework Development: Help create the structure and guidelines for the PAC, including who can join, how it will operate, and what its key values and responsibilities will be
Wellness Education and Health Promotion
- Health Promotion Content Development: Collaborate with the team in the Health and Wellness Centre to create clear, engaging, and evidence-based wellness content that meets the needs of UPEI campus community. This includes materials for campus notices, display screens, the Health and Wellness Centre website, the UPEI Student Union newsletter, and social media. Help improve the Health and Wellness Centre website to enhance accessibility, clarity, and overall user-friendliness
- Peer Health Programs: Support the review of peer-led health promotion programs at other Canadian post-secondary institutions. Identify successful models, outreach strategies, and ways students are engaged
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Health Sciences at UPEI (e.g. Nursing, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Psychology) or a related field
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working in a collaborative team environment
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with design platforms such as Canva an asset
- Demonstrated interest in health promotion
