The Centre for Health and Community Research (CHCR) at the University of Prince Edward Island seeks applications for the position of Data Analyst.  The primary responsibility of the successful applicant is the management, manipulation and analysis of administrative health and research-produced data.

Reporting to the Research Manager, the Data Analyst will have responsibility for working with data pertaining to CHCR research and for researchers accessing data via the Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR). The successful candidate will be an adaptable team player, with excellent organizational, information technology and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complex data manipulation of large administrative databases
  • Perform complex linking of large administrative databases
  • Create and manage databases for housing research data
  • Analysis of administrative health databases using statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, R)
  • Analysis of data generated through projects performed by the CHCR research staff
  • Assist with the publication and presentation of research findings
  • Other related duties as required
  • Participation on relevant working groups within the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit and SPOR Canadian Data Platform.
  • Comply with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures pertaining to the use of administrative and research data

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary program in a related area (a graduate degree would be considered a strong asset)
  • Experience working with and creating databases
  • Experience using statistical software and writing syntax for such programs (SAS and/or Stata strongly preferred)
  • Ability to learn new statistical software programs in a short amount of time as required
  • Experience with complex data manipulation and complex linking of databases
  • Knowledge of and experience with basic statistical analysis techniques.  Advanced statistical analysis experience is an asset
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others in a cooperative and collaborative manner
  • Knowledge of administrative health databases including their content, structure and limitations would be a strong asset
